Papillon
Dubai,
November 2021
Famed American show creator, Denise Faye, and the incredible UAE Talent, Layla Kardan, teamed up to bring Dubai one of the most sophisticated, raunchy and boundary-pushing live Cabaret and Dining shows ever seen. Papillon is a multi-act live show restaurant in the Westin Mina Al Seyahi complex that gives audiences enticing spectacle of dance, music and visual effect.
Having previously worked with both the venue owners as the brand developers, Levels AV was brought in to design the AVL production systems that would be built into the venue for the shows audio, lighting and visual requirements. After extensive consultation with the show producers, analysis of the space and its unique architectural and interior design elements, Levels planned out a comprehensive lighting system with grid and rigging, along with a sound reinforcement system to operate within the dual modes of function – live sound and DJ Club.
More than 70 luminaires from AVIA Lighting were deployed on the custom design and fabricated lighting grid, providing substantial light and visual FX for the lighting design that complimented the 11 Act shows that were designed for the venue. A combination of fixture types was utilized in front, centre, side and rear stage arrangements, including:
Complimenting the lighting fixtures are a series of hazer machines along with an Avolites Tiger Tough II lighting console with ShowTec DMX distribution and control gear.
Visual FX design was further extended with an Epson video projector rig, supported by Kramer video distribution equipment.
A fully refurbished Void Acoustics sound system was engineered into the venue to provide Front-of-House sound reinforcement as well as distributed fill speakers for the DJ Club sound operations. Void Venue 12, 10 and 8 speaker cabinets were used, with the FOH system being a flown Left, Centre, Right cluster array system, while VLF reinforcement was provided from Venue 215 and 115 15” subwoofer cabinets.
A series of Shure Wireless Microphones, complimented with a wireless antennae system provides Vocal and instrument capture, while the FOH sound is run via an Allen & Heath Sound Mixer and Stage Rack system.
